European Sports Championships

The European Sports Championships is a multi-sport event involving the co-branding of the individual European championships of some of the leading sports in Europe. It is organized by the individual continental federations of those sports under a single brand. This competition is not related to the European Games which are organised in the Olympic tradition by the European Olympic Committees.
==First Edition (2018)==
The European Governing Bodies for athletics, swimming, cycling, rowing and triathlon, will co-ordinate their individual continental championships as part of the first edition between August 1 and 12 2018, hosted by the cities of Berlin (already chosen as the host for the 2018 European Athletics Championships) and Glasgow (already chosen as the host for the 2018 European Aquatics Championships, and which will now also host the events of the other sports).
The initial participating continental governing bodies, and championships, are :
* European Athletics organizing the 2018 European Athletics Championships in Berlin, Germany
* Ligue Européenne de Natation organizing the 2018 European Aquatics Championships,
* Union Européenne de Cyclisme organizing the 2018 European Cycling Championships, bringing together the individual road, track, BMX and mountain biking championships of the continent,
* European Rowing organizing the 2018 European Rowing Championships, and
* European Triathlon Union organizing the 2018 European Triathlon Championships, all in Glasgow, Scotland
Two further sports entered public discussions to join the event. It was anticipated that a new mixed team European Golf Championship will be held as part of the event, also in Scotland. The European Union of Gymnastics also voted in favour of joining the co-ordinated championships and are in discussion with Scottish officials for the hosting of the 2018 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Glasgow.
On 23 October 2015, European Gymnastics confirmed that the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships will be held as part of the 2018 European Sports Championships, at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow. The announcement coincided with the first day of competition at the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships at ther same venue. On the same date, the inaugural European Golf Team Championships were also announced as part of the 2018 Championships, to be held at Gleneages in Scotland.〔(Golf and Gymnastics join 2018 European Sports Championship programme ), from insidethegames.biz, 23 October 2015〕
Additional participating governing bodies, and championships :
* European Union of Gymnastics organizing the 2018 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships, in Glasgow, Scotland and
* PGA European Tour and Ladies' European Tour organizing the inaugural European Team Golf Championships, in Gleneagles, Scotland.
The European Broadcasting Union, the umbrella body for the continent’s free-to-air channels, will be the broadcast partner for the combined championships, which are expected to generate more than 2’700 hours of programming. And with Europe’s public service broadcasters involved, the combined Championships are expected to reach a cumulative live television audience of more than 850 million television viewers across the continent. This approach brings the existing European Championships together in a sustainable format once every four years in order to continue building their prestige, profile and media exposure.
To be staged between 1 and 12 August 2018, around 1,500 athletes will compete at the European Athletics Championships in Berlin, whilst at the same time 2,900 will take part in the other championships in Glasgow – all as part of the European Sports Championships. Each European championship will be organised by the respective Federation and the Host City.
